While sagging skin on your face and neck is an inevitable part of aging, it’s not something you have to settle for—especially if it’s making you feel bad. We offer various nonsurgical treatments, including Ultherapy® and Morpheus8 RF microneedling, to help you reduce wrinkles and lift and restore the skin to a more youthful state.

With multiple paths to firmer skin, which skin-tightening treatment should you choose to combat aging symptoms? Let’s explore the science of sagging skin and the key differences between Ultherapy and Morpheus8 below.

What Causes Skin To Sag?

Healthy skin is built on a strong foundation, and your skin’s foundation is called the “dermis.” The dermis is a primary source of collagen and elastin, keeping your skin youthful, taut, and supple. However, aging slows collagen and elastin production, gradually causing loose, wrinkled skin and giving you an older appearance. Weight loss and other lifestyle factors also contribute to sagging skin. You can proactively maintain or boost collagen production by avoiding sun exposure and pollutants and maintaining healthy habits.

How Does Ultherapy Work?

The Ultherapy device delivers focused ultrasound energy deep into the dermis to rescue and restore aging skin. The treatment stimulates collagen production to gradually firm, lift, and tighten skin without damaging surrounding tissues. Each treatment can be customized to deliver energy at optimal depths and temperatures.

Ultherapy continues to grow in popularity for its many benefits:

  • It’s the only FDA-approved device for safely lifting skin on the brow, neck, and under the chin
  • It diminishes wrinkles on the décolletage
  • There are no incisions and, therefore, no scarring
  • There’s no downtime required after treatment
  • It’s safe for all skin types and tones

How Does Morpheus8 Work?

Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to smooth and refine mildly lax, wrinkled skin. It’s also ideal for treating other skin irregularities. Instead of ultrasound energy, it uses tiny needles to deliver RF energy deep into the skin, triggering collagen production for firmer, uplifted skin. Like Ultherapy, the Morpheus8 device can be customized with different depths to address targeted treatment areas.

Morpheus8 RF microneedling treatment benefits include:

  • Highly versatile; effectively treats many skin concerns
  • Improves skin texture and firmness
  • Reduces the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Addresses acne, scarring, pigmentation, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation
  • Diminishes stretch marks
  • Safe for all skin types and tones

Comparison

Morpheus8 and Ultherapy are minimally invasive treatments that effectively smooth and firm sagging skin. They both trigger collagen production but take a slightly different approach to rejuvenating your skin.

Ultherapy bypasses the skin’s surface by delivering ultrasound energy deep into the skin. It’s ideal for patients with mild to moderate skin laxity on the face and neck who are not ready for a more invasive surgical facelift or Facetite procedure.

In addition to firming the skin, Morpheus8 RF microneedling improves skin tone, surface, and texture. This includes treating age spots, acne scars, and other skin irregularities on the face and body. While both Morpheus8 and Ultherapy are well-tolerated compared to more invasive procedures, Morpheus8 is a slightly more aggressive treatment, requiring about 3 to 5 days of recovery time.
