How ProFractional Works

ProFractional precisely treats a fraction of your skin, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched to promote rapid healing. Unlike full-field resurfacing, which removes the entire surface area, ProFractional creates narrow channels, stimulating natural collagen remodeling for younger-looking, refreshed skin. The speed of your recovery depends on the treatment’s intensity and your specific skin concerns.
What ProFractional Treats
The Sciton ProFractional laser addresses skin concerns such as:
- Uneven skin texture
- Text BoxWrinkles
- Acne scars
- Stretch marks
- Skin laxity
The ProFractional laser creates micro-channels in the skin, leaving surrounding tissues undamaged.
It is also effective as a scar revision treatment.

What To Expect During Your ProFractional Treatment

We typically apply a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the ProFractional procedure. You’ll experience minimal to no discomfort as your provider delivers the treatment to your skin. Afterward, most patients feel warmth for 30 to 60 minutes, particularly with deeper treatment levels.
ProFractional Post-Treatment Care
Following our aftercare instructions helps ensure a smooth healing and recovery process. For the first 3 days, you should keep your skin moisturized with non-fragranced products. You should expect some slight swelling or itching, which can last 3 to 5 days. You can apply makeup after 24 hours, but avoid direct sun exposure and use sunscreen for 4 weeks.
Combining Treatments for Enhanced Results
You can significantly improve your skin rejuvenation results by combining ProFractional laser treatments with other Sciton technologies. For instance, if you have pigmented lesions and other complexion concerns, combining BBL® Hero™ with ProFractional is an effective option. Pairing the ProFractional laser with the HALO® laser is another common combination for tightening and firming the skin while improving its surface texture and tone.
ProFractional Laser FAQ
How many treatments do I need?
Most patients see the best results after an initial series of 2 to 4 treatments, with additional semi-annual or annual visits. This routine will also vary depending on any other aesthetic treatments you may get and your overall skin goals and lifestyle.
When will I see results?
Patients usually see initial results between 3 to 5 days after the treatment, but your skin’s appearance will continue to improve over time. Most patients see continual improvement for up to 6 months after their first treatment.
What does a ProFractional treatment feel like?
Most people describe feeling a series of quick, warm, prickling sensations as the device is applied to their skin. We apply a topical anesthetic before beginning the procedure to ensure you remain comfortable during the treatment.
