Board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Armando Soto offers several male enhancement procedures at his Orlando plastic surgery practice, including calf implant surgery. While women can also get calf implant surgery, it is more popular in men to create a more proportionate calf appearance. In men, this procedure is used to enhance fullness in the lower leg and to emphasize the muscle bellies. Calf augmentation is ideal for individuals who desire shapelier calves or stronger muscle definition in their lower legs. At Aesthetic Enhancements Plastic Surgery, patients will receive a thorough consultation to determine which size and shape silicone calf implants will meet the patient's needs and goals. Dr. Soto seeks to create results produce a smooth and natural contour in the lower leg.
During calf augmentation surgery, the legs are measured to determine the suitable size and shape of implant to use. The incision is then created in the natural line of the fascia, the fibrous tissue that covers the outer muscle. A special instrument is used to create a "pocket" between the fascia and the muscle, which is big enough for the implant insertion. Implants are typically inserted into the muscle, and the area is reshaped until the desired size is achieved. Because the muscle covers the actual silicone device, the calf looks and feels like real muscle. The wounds are then closed with stitches and once they dissolve, scarring is minimal due to the discreet location of the incision.
"Bridget and Amanda made a super weird and uncomfortable procedure quite easy! I was really nervous, but their calming manner and conversation relaxed me. The Geneveve treatment was completely painless and there was no down time. My significant other thoroughly enjoys the results as well."- K.M. / Yellowpages / Jun 26, 2017
"Anchor lift with 255cc implants - best surgeon - Only doing a review because I lived on this site pre & post op, looking for similar procedures (and I chose the best surgeon ever, so he deserves a review). I've always had saggy breast, and what I thought was extra breast tissue in my armpit region. It wasn't until I went to see Dr. Soto for liposuction that I was informed I actually had a slight breast deformity - ptosis 3 tubular breast. Dr. Soto respectfully informed me why my breast were so droopy, and that liposuction would not help get the goal I was desiring. He instead explained he could perform an anchor lift which would result in a youthful, perky and pretty breast shape. I had other consultations scheduled after him, but after speaking with him and seeing his amazing bedside manner and dedication to safety, I cancelled the others & booked my surgery with him that same day. The fact that he didn't try to also push liposuction really made me trust him and his judgement - Vs other surgeons wanting to perform any & everything, only for their benefit. He definitely has your best interest at heart & is very realistic about getting you to your goal image/body. I ended up also asking him for implants to make sure I got the shape and fullness that I really wanted. I showed him goal photos, and trusted him to make the best decision based on my body. I think he said I would be around his 3,500 breast augmentation, and his work 100% showed his talent. He's a true artist, I'm still in shock at how amazing my results are!!! My friends and family don't even believe the photos I show them are actually me. I am only 6 weeks post op and they look better every day. Photos speak for themselves. I also looked through hundreds of results from surgeons around the country, and Dr. Soto had some of the best scar results I had ever seen. Being in my 20s, that was a huge concern of mine and I am so so happy I went with him. My scars are already barely noticeable and continue to face. I only wish I had done this sooner!! The entire office (nurses, PA, coordinator, front desk) is beyond sweet, always making you feel comfortable and going out of their way to accommodate you. After surgery, Dr. Soto saw me at least 5 times within the first month to monitor my healing - just goes to show how much they really care for each patient. If my friends & family ever need any work done, I will be sure to send them to Dr. Soto and his wonderful office!!"- K. / RealSelf / Sep 20, 2020
"Lower Body Lift After 3 Kids and 65 Pound Loss - I’ve always been a yo-yo dieter. I’ve also had 3 kids that spanned from 2004 to 2016. At my highest weight I was 215 pounds. Somewhere between 2016 and 2020, I lost about 25 pounds. In January of this year, I weighed in at 188 and I decided enough was enough. So I started my journey. It never even occurred to me to get a lower body lift at that point. I just wanted to lose the weight. Well, in July, I broke into the 140’s. I was so pleased with my commitment, however I was left with a ton of skin after the babies and weight loss. I have very fair skin and have been told the fairer the skin, the thinner and therefor more saggy. Of course! I decided to go see Dr. Soto, after having a few other consultations with other doctors. I don’t know what it was but I felt more comfortable that he knew exactly how to mold me. I had my Lower body lift surgery on July 29th so I’m now 5 days post op. The first few days were rough. The first night I had immense acid reflux that wouldn’t go away. They tried, I just have a history of acid reflux and I would usually control it with Nexium. Well because my muscles were stitched and tightened, it put on that extra pressure and the acid just traveled upward. This was actually the worst part the first day. I opted for the Exparel, which I think was a huge reason I wasn’t in immense pain. It lasted for the first 3 days and now I just take a painkiller as needed, which isn’t often. Another side effect I wasn’t prepared for was the phlegm. It’s a side effect of the anesthesia but once you get that tickle in your throat, it’s very difficult not to cough. Coughing is not fun when you’ve had your muscles fixed. However, sometimes it’s necessary to rid yourself of the phlegm. On day 5, it doesn’t hurt as much as it did on day 2. So my biggest complaint up to this point has really been the acid reflux. I’m trying to learn how to control it with the foods that I eat. I’m instructed not to drink water and to opt for the fruit juices and Gatorades (something that won’t wash away those important electrolytes). Apple juice proved to be an acid builder so now it’s just Gatorade. It’s all trial and error for me right now but I wanted to share my first before and after photos with you all. Dr. Soto and his team have been very helpful, as I have had a lot of questions along the way. I was so sure he would have to do liposuction, however he did not and I’m still very pleased with my new body, even as heavily swollen as it is. I cannot wait to see my final result! You will see a pic of me at 215, then a before surgery body pic at 149 and then 1 day post op."- F. / RealSelf / Aug 03, 2020
"I Have Never Been So Happy! - Dr Armando is truly a perfectionist. He did such an amazing job on my Mommy Makeover. I waited 20 years for this procedure and I never expected to be this happy. My abdomen was a mess and I was so insecure it affected so much of my happiness. He has restored my confidence and I have the cutest belly button! Best decision I have ever made to choose him as my surgeon."- J. / RealSelf / Jul 23, 2020
"So Happy I Chose Dr. Soto! I ended up with 300cc’s moderate plus profile under the muscle - Dr. Soto is an amazing surgeon. His before and after photos caught my attention when I was searching for a plastic surgeon and after my consultation I knew he was the one! I booked the same day and had my surgery two weeks later! We discussed the results I wanted to achieve and the different options for the surgery. I ended up with 300cc’s moderate plus profile under the muscle with the incision in the crease under the breast. I wanted them a bit bigger but unfortunately my skin was too tight to stretch to my desired size. I don’t blame Dr. Soto for that though, he gave me a size that would fit my body and got me as close to my goal as he could. I emphasized I wanted fullness and cleavage and he definitely gave me that. On the day of surgery he asks for a photo of your desired results so he can get as close to it as possible, and I love that approach. We didn’t talk cc size at the consultation and I appreciated that because it’s so easy to get caught up with cc’s when really the same size implant will look different on everyone. Overall I highly recommend Dr. Soto, everyone told me he was the best in Orlando and I wholeheartedly agree!"- M. / RealSelf / Jul 22, 2020
Calf augmentation surgery normally takes about an hour per leg and is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia or IV sedation. After surgery, especially during the first week, crutches are required until the patient can stand and walk slowly. When lying down, legs should be elevated in order to reduce the swelling. A stretching regime will be prescribed that helps the legs get adapted to having the implants in place. Once the first week is up, the patient can walk longer and greater distances. The results are a shapelier, curvier lower leg that can last for many years.

Calf Augmentation FAQs
Calf augmentation surgery is not confined to aesthetic purposes only. There are several illnesses or diseases that this procedure can help to correct a visual defect in the lower leg. Specifically, diseases such as Poliomyelitis and Spina Bifida can lead to a visible deformity. In addition, clubfoot where the heels and toes turn inward, as well as bow-legged conditions can also be corrected with implants.
Are Scars Noticeable?
The placement of the incision when it comes to cosmetic surgery (in most cases) is always along natural folds and creases of the area being treated so it can be easily concealed. For calf augmentation, the incision is located either behind the knee or under the front knee. When the scar heals, this strategic positioning will conceal the scar making it difficult to see.
How Long Will They Last?
The results from calf augmentation, just like with any other cosmetic surgery that uses implants, can last for approximately 10-15 years. However, once the patient ages, a shapelier calf may no longer be desired if it does not remain proportionate with the rest of the body. In some cases, patients can opt to have the implant removed if they wish. However, they are considered permanent until that decision is made.
